Theo Ionides was a member of a Greek family based in London. He first tried to join up when he was 17 but was turned down. The Ox & Bucks Light Infantry did give him a commission when he was 18. He was an extremely popular junior officer who features in surviving letters in the regimental history.

He died of wounds, aged 19.
